Paediatric Medical Ophthalmology
Dr Hamroush specialises in medical paediatric care. Paediatric ophthalmology is a sub-speciality of ophthalmology concerned with a variety of eye conditions affecting children of all ages:
Strabismus / Squint / Crossed eyes
Amblyopia (Lazy eye )
Blocked tear ducts
Cataracts – congenital and developmental
Glaucoma – congenital, secondary and juvenile
Retinoblastoma – a highly malignant intraocular tumour affecting children under five years of age
Delayed visual maturation
Refractive errors – myopia (short-sight), hyperopia (long-sight) and astigmatism ( a mixture of long and short –sight)
Genetic eye conditions
Congenital abnormalities of the eye
Infections
Retinopathy of Prematurity – a potentially blinding condition that affects very premature babies.
Neuro-Ophthalmology
Neuro-ophthalmology focuses on diseases of the nervous system that affect vision, control of eye movements, or pupillary reflexes. Dr Hamroush specialises in patients with complex multi-system disease.
Glaucoma Laser Treatment
(Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty)
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, or SLT, is a form of laser surgery that lowers intraocular pressure in glaucoma. It is used when eye drop medications are not lowering the eye pressure enough or are causing significant side effects. It may also be used as the initial treatment in glaucoma.

For capsule opacification after cataract surgery
Peripheral iridotomy for narrow angle glaucoma
Full eye diagnostics are performed on site (the only full service of its kind in the region)
Optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Visual Fields testing (including test for driving)
Minor Eyelids Procedures
Lid cysts-excision.
Lid warts excision.
Conjunctival cysts excision.
Syringing and probing for blocked tear ducts.
Temporary punctal stops (plugs) for dry eyes.

Under Dr Hamroush’s care in Drogheda, we share arrangements with surgeons in private hospitals, in Dublin, to provide a direct and fast referral pathway for surgical treatment of eye conditions such as cataract, oculoplastics cornea, retinal and squint.
