Dr Fatima Hamroush, DMEC director and consultant medical Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology, has provided specialist eye care in the Louth, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and North Dublin areas, in the public sector HSE at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital (OLLH) since 1999, Temple Street Hospital (1997-1998), the Mater Misericordiae Hospital (1996-2011) and Beaumont Hospital (1996- 2018), as well as at her private practice since 2002.

In February 1983, Hamroush graduated with a medical degree (MB BS) from Garyounis University, in 1989, received a D.O. in Ophthalmology and December 1999 became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Dr Hamroush is a member of the Irish College of Ophthalmologists, with a special interest in glaucoma, medical retina, and neuro-ophthalmology. She is also a member of the Irish Institute of Clinical Neuroscience (IICN). Dr Hamroush is a clinician in the National Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme. She is a Member of EGA European Glaucoma Association and a member of EUNOS European Neuro-ophthalmology society. 

Part of Dr Hamroush’s services also include medical paediatric ophthalmology and retinopathy of prematurity screening and diabetic retinopathy screening.

From 2000, until the 2011 Libyan civil war, Dr Hamroush held the position of consultant ophthalmologist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Ireland. From November 2011 to November 2012, Dr Hamroush held the position of the Minister of Health in the Libyan Transitional Government. During her term, Dr Hamroush faced great adversity, and despite the difficult circumstances, she successfully formed foundations for national medical services for her successors in the Libyan government. She returned to Ireland in November 2012, after handing over to the new Minister of Health.

In January 2013, she resumed her public consultant ophthalmologist post in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and her private practice, the Drogheda Medical Eye Clinic on the Dublin Road in Drogheda, Co, Louth. 

In June 2020, Dr Hamroush retired from the public service to provide fully private service at Drogheda Medical Eye Clinic.
